Best Home Based Business Opportunities for Writers

As a writer, you probably already use a computer and the
Internet. You may maintain your own web site to showcase your
writing abilities. However, many other opportunities abound when
you have writing skills. You may want to consider a few of the
best home based business opportunities.

As an online writer, you can publish your own ezine or
electronic magazine. The Internet essentially levels the playing
field for writers as you don’t have to wait for a publisher to
discover you. If you have the desire to publish an ezine, you
can get started with very little upfront money. By using various
self-promotion techniques, writing your own ezine can become one
of the best home based business opportunities available to you.
Alternatively, you could publish your own weblog or blog. Pick
your own platform or just write to get your name out there. Your
possibilities are limited only by your imagination and time.

Another one of the best home based business opportunities for
writers is blogging or writing for hire. Many businesses and
individuals want to maintain blogs for different reasons but
don’t have the time or the experience to do so. They will often
pay a professional writer to maintain this aspect of their
business. They may also require other types of writing for their
web sites or offline needs. You can find out about these types
of opportunities in different writing magazines both on and off
the Internet.

And, of course, one of the best home based business
opportunities for any writer is freelancing. You may choose to
sign up at a site like http://www.elance.com where you can bid
on different writing jobs from all over the world. So many
different possible projects exist for a freelancer. You could
write sales copy for businesses, write business correspondence
or even ghost write books. The list goes on and on.

Many of the best home based business opportunities for writers
are available either on the Internet or through the Internet.
You just need to get out there and find the best one for you.

Home Based Business Tax Advantages

You already know how wonderful it can be to work from home, but
do you realize how many home based business tax advantages
exist?, many people operate home based
businesses just to take advantage of the numerous tax
deductions.

Claiming the use of your home in your business can give you some
hefty deductions on your tax return. As with anything
tax-related, you must meet certain requirements determined by
the Internal Revenue Service. However, if you use one room or
part of a room specifically for your business, you can receive a
significant home based business tax deduction. This can include
portions of your utility bills specifically related to that area
of your house as well as any relevant home improvements.

Your phone and other office services can also provide you with a
substantial home based business tax deduction. If you maintain a
separate fixed phone line or cell phone specifically for your
business, then all costs related to those phone lines can be tax
deductible. However, if you use equipment or services in both
personal and business environments, it is more difficult to
establish a tax deduction. Its not impossible, but you must
meet some fairly strict requirements and maintain good records.

Using your car in your business gives you the potential for
another good home based business tax deduction. Of course, you
must keep excellent records but you can deduct mileage and
car-related expenses that you incur while conducting your
business. With any type of business, other incidental costs come
up. You can also take deductions for purchases of items such as
office supplies, postage, advertising materials and expenses.
You can potentially deduct even more by hiring your children or
spouse to work as employees for you. This enables you to deduct
health insurance premiums and other typical employee-related
expenses.

In order to find out about the many home based business tax
deductions available to you, consult an experienced tax advisor.
With proper advice and good record keeping, your home based
business can become even more successful.

I didn't get any money this Month!

A man in a bar sees a friend at a table, drinking by himself.

Approaching the friend he comments, "You look terrible. What's the problem?"

"My mother died in August," he said, "and left me $25,000."

"Gee, that's tough," he replied. "Then in September," the friend continued, "My father died, leaving me $90,000."

"Wow. Two parents gone in two months. No wonder you're depressed."

"And last month my aunt died, and left me $15,000."

"Three close family members lost in three months? How sad."

"Then this month," continued, the friend, "absolutely nothing!"

Is Affiliate Marketing a Viable Business Model for Successful Businesses?

Some of the most popular "how to" courses, bootcamps and seminars are built around affiliate marketing as a business model for success. If you do a search on the Internet, you'll find literally thousands of E-books, Home study courses, and affiliate marketing products for sale.

But can you really build a business around selling other people's products?

Yes. And no.

The truth of the matter is, there is a specific formula that can lead to success if you decide to base your business around selling affiliate products.

But if you do it wrong, you may never make more than enough to cover your Internet connection and telephone costs each month.

Why is there such a huge disparity between the really successful affiliate marketers (those who make several thousand dollars each and every month) and those who are barely eking out a living?

Like with any business, it all boils down to creating solid systems that are scalable and can be duplicated to bring income from as many different sources as possible.

Here are some things to keep in mind when getting started:

Start with one product. Do your research. Find a market with a product that people want and are buying. Set up a system for promoting that product. (Think article writing, white papers, case studies, product reviews, e-books, workbooks, etc.)
Find additional and complimentary products or services that you can sell after you've started making a profit with the first one.

Create a squeeze page where you can collect names of people who want to find out more about the affiliate product or niche market.

Drive traffic to your Squeeze Page and offer them valuable information in exchange for their contact information.

Create a way to keep in touch with the people on your list, and continue to promote the additional products to them over time – but make sure that you're offering good solid information to them as well, to help build your credibility and their loyalty.

Once you've got your first affiliate product selling well, it's time to start cross selling and upselling. This may take you from a few weeks to several months – but like any other business, it's important that you are willing to spend the time and money necessary to build your affiliate business.

As soon as you've got the first product and cross sells operating at a profit, you can expand. For example, you could go into another complimentary niche. Or, I you want something a little more advance (and this one is a trick used by some of the Internet Marketing gurus in many different niches), go into competition with yourself.

That may sound a little crazy – but think of it this way: by competing against yourself – especially if you're able to grab onto the two of the top five positions – you're really just giving yourself a bigger piece of the pie!

If you're the type who gets bored easily, or is always looking for a new challenge, you might want to go into a totally new niche. Find something that doesn't have anything to do with your first niche.

Whatever you decide to do, just make sure that you're following the proven formula for success. Build each product or niche until it becomes profitable before moving on to the next one.

After that, you can just "lather, rinse and repeat" to your heart's content – and you'll be able to watch your bank balance grow too!
